Skye
works on a goat and chicken farm. She is expected to help
with the movement of both
types of stock and she does a terrific job of applying just
enough pressure to accomplish her task. She can be gentle
and calming but will not back down from a confrontation.
She is a bossy dog who reads her owner to know what is needed
from her and sees that the job gets done whether that be getting
the doe back in the fence or guarding the
cookie jar. Her owner is
protected from pushy stock as Skye keeps the bucks in the corner
until the feeding is done.
She moves the animals with a lot of shouldering and growling and
she seldom barks when herding. She herds responsibly when
she is left in charge and will return any escapees to their
proper place in the absence of her owner. When not
actively working she is friendly with the stock. She has
vehemently guarded newborn kids from the other dogs and takes
over the cleaning duties, including trying to nurse them.
She is a very territorial dog who knows her boundaries and stays
home to protect them. She trees squirrels and will stand
whining and barking periodically. She loves to hunt mice
and rats and will track them to their hole and wait them out.
Skye is steady and responsive and always ready to lend a hand.
