Mace is an excellent herding dog. He gathers naturally but
has learned to drive effectively. He heels low and
consequently ducks to avoid the kick. He will also
use a bossy dominant bark in the face to tell the stock what to
do. When the other resident dog attacked the new sheep,
Mace was right in there to tell the dog to BACK OFF! He
knows his stock and will protect them. He works cattle and
sheep with authority but is gentle with the poultry. He
observes predatory birds and chases them away. He
regularly patrols and hunts for rodents. With few trees,
Mace has cornered prey and stood barking. Mace is a fairly
soft dog but is not afraid to voice his own opinions. He
is very friendly with people he knows, but he can be
disconcerting until he knows the stranger.
