Jake
has worked cattle, horses, sheep, donkeys, and chickens. He does
best with the cattle and horses. The bigger animals aren't too
worried about him and will follow his lead. The sheep came from
a farm where they trained Kelpies and the sheep were fearful of
all dogs, to the point that is they saw a dog they would run in
the barn and hide. Jake works slowly around them so there
is now some trust and makes buddies with them when he can.
The donkeys are just plain terrible to herd! You can get them
close to where you want them and they will turn and chase him
down. Jake does ok with the chickens, sometimes has to be
reminded to slow down.
Jake is very gentle and protective with
baby livestock . He varies his herding force to suit the
situation and prefers to drive.
Jake hunts and kills vermin and will
corner varmints and stand there barking until help comes.
Jake is very bonded to his person. He
listens to direction and is not easily discouraged.
Jake gets along well with other dogs and does not
show aggression towards strangers.
A very classic, bonded "rule dog" PRGN...
