Boss is a moderately active dog with a variety of herding styles, depending on the stock being driven.  He will use a dominant stare if necessary and moves animals by walking up to them or gripping them if necessary.  He works the gather, but will drive if needed.  He is good with young livestock.

Boss is oriented towards humans.  He is protective of children and watches his master’s back when with stock.  He is a territorial guardian, noticing and driving away predatory birds and strange dogs.  He has killed snakes in his territory and even catches sparrows.  He demands that the stock observe rules; he breaks up fights between stock.  He also makes the other dogs obey master’s commands.

He is a good and successful hunter, eliminating rodents and other pests and using tracking skills to find raccoons and rats.  He will also scent-track game for his master.
